kiss unmasked album cover

A poppy piece of hooky goodness! This print is derived from the original, renowned Kiss Unmasked album cover. Me and my friends used to stare at the cover and laugh. Around this time I remember seeing them on Kids Are People Too… The host asked the audience at first who was their favorite member…the first kid answered Peter Criss…and someone answered Ace… they explained that Peter married the Coppertone lady. Rated #1311 in the best albums of 1980. Interestingly enough I believe the song is about Ace’s wife and possibly another girlfriend and he didn’t know which one to choose. Again, it sounds nothing like Kiss. The first two albums I actually got are Dynasty and Unmasked. Just better. I looked at it a lot, but it wasn’t Love Gun or Destroyer. “Easy As It Seems” is the best song, and I got Mr. Harrison Kopp on my side with that one. Stepehen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic commented that none of the songs are memorable and that the group sounds uninspired throughout the album. Again, it sounds nothing like Kiss. One year after their last tour, which was somewhat a disaster, Criss was fired from the band due to his erratic behavior. The final song on the first side is “What Makes the World Go Round” written by Paul and Vini. And the story linked this album as the embryo to the melodic rock movement that started up in the early 2000s in those countries. “Easy As it Seems” is the next Paul song written by him and Vini, who is on most of these songs so it must be his fault. Genres: Pop Rock, Hard Rock, Glam Rock. It was the last time he appeared with Kiss until he performed with them at a Kiss Convention on June 17, 1995. Are you looking for never-ending fun in this exciting logic-brain app? 11 tracks (39:31). I still think he is awesome though and it doesn’t bother me. '", Although Unmasked marked a major musical departure for the band, it still reached #35 on the US Billboard chart[8] and was certified gold by the RIAA on July 30, 1980.[9]. Love this album. Now, I still like this song just not as much as the others. ( Log Out /  In the end, he did divorce his wife so I guess he did choose. Check out the rest of the series if you have time!! Paul solo, yes…Kiss, no. any old time though. I still like Unmasked even compared to their entire output. It might be my favorite Paul song on the album. Great stuff John. They lost all credibility with the Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park movie, Dynasty and now this. I believe ‘more fun’ is the correct term. I actually enjoy this album and will pull it out to spin on occasion. Once again, I went back and reread what I wrote about this album. Easy mistake to make actually. It might have fit nicely on Paul’s solo album, but it isn’t Kiss. Hello fellow Wikipedians, I have just modified one external link on Unmasked (Kiss album). The guitar sound is different and has no punch to it as it sounds almost New Wave. I’ve come to realise that after decades of Kiss fandom. It is tame and so pop almost to a point of pure cheese. This is another filler song for me and the weakest of the Paul songs which is saying something on this album. Quite the same Wikipedia. The album marked the first time Kiss had used the contributions of outside songwriters to such a large extent, as all tracks except two of the Frehley contributions, "Talk to Me" and "Two Sides of the Coin", were written or co-written by someone outside the band. The album also came with the usual merchandise form which of course isn’t in mine as my brothers probably bought something off of it as a couple of those items look familiar like I saw them around the house when I was a kid. Some of the worlds are: Planet Earth, Under The Sea, Inventions, Seasons, Circus, Transports and Culinary Arts. Now Ace, well, he was on the album, however, he only shows up on probably 5 of the 11 songs with the rest of the guitar parts being handled by Paul, Gene or Bob Kulick. "Tomorrow" was the third and last single by Unmasked – the second in the United States – and reached No. This was the third and final single around the world not the U.S. as they only had 1. And no, I am not lucky enough to have this poster in my copy of the album (insert sad emoji here). The song is about New York City (which a lot of their songs are about). NBLP 7225; Vinyl LP). He somehow managed to hang in there for a little while longer. Unmasked is the eighth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss, released in 1980.It was the last studio album to feature the original lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss until the band reunited in 1996. There is I am sure a long story about what they came up with, but I have rambled on for too long and we haven’t even gotten to the music yet so I will let you know it was a Fox. It was a huge mistake as this became the first album since Dressed to Kill to not go Platinum. Unmasked (1980) by Kiss. Ace’s bass smokes, man it’s so hot! Examiner Rustyn Rose concluded that Unmasked, "Is Kiss's adaptation to the new wave movement "and despite being" full of catchy pop-oriented melodies, they are far from the classic Kiss sound." There is no sign of Ace’s guitar sound to be found anywhere as it is Paul on guitar. Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by email. There was a promotional video done for the song and it does feature the last appearance of Peter Criss…that is until the MTV unplugged era in the 90’s. Peter was gone by then, I believe. Unmasked is the eighth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss, released on May 20, 1980. Outside writers were now leaving their mark with Kiss. Completely wasted but having a good time. No other original members of the band. The current US edition of Kiss' "Unmasked" is of outstanding manufacturing quality. KISS UNMASKED Released on May 20, 1980 (Casablanca records) Review by Lance Lumley: By 1980, KISS had a major problem within the band. It is actually quite a sad, insightful and observant viewpoint of the city. Do not translate text that appears unreliable or low-quality. Overall, I would give the album a 3.0 out of 5.0 Stars. Cool story on the illegal cassette copying. There is no punch or darkness which I like for Gene. NBLP 7225; Vinyl LP). And I want the cover to be a cartoon that ends with 'They stink.' It was becoming more and more obvious that the end was near for Ace as well although it wouldn’t be for another year or two. Now it is toned down a little because well, Ace is constantly out-voted by Gene and Paul now that Peter is gone. During an interview on October 31, 1979 on the Tom Snyder Show, Ace was totally hammered and you could see the faces of Gene and Paul and they did not look altogether happy. Two Sides of the Coin is also off the hook, melodically. The song was written by Paul Stanley and Vini Poncia and was actually inspired by “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” by Bruce Springsteen, but not his version. Great write up as per usual, thanks 2L2OM! And it is quite ironic of me to accuse someone else of going too far. The album marked the first time Kiss had used the contributions of outside songwriters to such a large extent, as all tracks except two of the Frehley contributions, "Talk to Me" and "Two Sides of the Coin", were written or co-written by someone outside the band. Of course Anton Fig was considered a member for a like a day until they realized he wasn’t a good fit and was let go. It is classic sounding Ace. They go straight in to “Shandi” which was a massive hit in Australia going to #5, but in the U.S. didn’t even break the Top 40 charts. This started the ’80s trend of Paul not writing a single song in that decade on his own. Kiss’ popularity was badly waning in the US but in Australia it was Kissmania. Ace Frehley‘s solo record produced a hit and became the breakout of the four solo attempts. Love how he blew Peter Criss shit for using co-writers, and then hooks up with Desmond Child, Diane Warren, Poncia, and several others over the course of the ’80s. Be careful what you say cause it can always come back and bite you. Unmasked is the eighth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss, released in 1980. Otherwise, the album's songs have been largely ignored in live performances, with the exception of "Shandi", which is sometimes played in the band's shows, particularly in Australia (where the song became a top ten hit in 1980). By the end of they Dynasty Tour, the Kiss Empire was eroding quickly. This is a little more upbeat and a little more rocking and more what I like from Paul. Labels: Casablanca. Despite being credited, Peter Criss had no involvement with the recording of the album; Anton Fig played all the drums uncredited. Genres: Hard Rock, Pop Rock, Glam Rock. You just have to be on his good side I guess. . It is too poppy and doesn’t fit his demon persona. It was the cover version done by The Hollies. Too be honest I don’t think I would delete those three tracks you singled out as I can easily listen to this album right through. Back to the band. Go do it.' The overall album is enjoyable, but I don’t know if I like it as much as I used to. “I like going too far… it is fun!” It wasn’t the worst solo album ever made by a drummer – that was Keith Moon’s risible Two Sides Of The Moon. After the album was done, the band needed a drummer. Peggy Tomarkin recalled coming up with the cover: "The 'Unmasked' album cover was another cartoon idea. Unmasked went on sale on May 20, 1980 through Casablanca Records and reached number 35 on the Billboard 200, the worst position for the group since Hotter Than Hell (1974). As a little something extra for the Kiss Review Series, I am also going to review one outside project for every member of the band (yes, even Mark St. John) and next week we have our first. However, with Ace having outside help, it gets watered down as well in to more of a Pop song than a rocking Ace track. Jan 29, 2016 - Kiss Unmasked on 180g LP Newly Remastered from Ultra-High-Definition Direct Stream Digital Transfers from Original Analog Tapes and Pressed on 180g LP at QRP According to David Fricke of Rolling Stone, the album "lacks the madness and amplified delusions of Love Gun and Alive!" The Aussies loved this album, but I just liked it. However, it wasn’t toned down too much and it sounds like a Kiss song…thanks to Ace. I don’t think the world was ready for a mature sounding Kiss heading into the 80s. Ok, I’ll stop then because maybe that is too far. The sound quality is, as promised, audiophile. Kiss played only one show in the US, at the Palladium with Carr. I’m intrigued that you don’t like the album cover. Ace is back a third and final time with “Torpedo Girl” and this time he brought Vini along to help and it shows. They created a new make-up for him because unlike today where the drummer wears Peter’s Cat Make-up, back in the day, that would never happen as Peter was the Catman. BS! Maybe they should’ve switched leads on it. You may withdraw your consent at any time. Peter did not play on the album at all and there are no Peter sung songs, but he was credited to play and he was on the cover as Kiss wanted to keep the illusion going the band was fine for as long as they could. Meanwhile, in Europe and Oceania, Kiss maintained its popularity; Unmasked topped the charts in Norway and New Zealand, and reached the top 5 in Australia, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. And the biggest get in the album is the poster which is a shot of the bottom frame of the album cover. It is catchy, a little anthemic and sticks in your head. Yeah that’s why I didn’t go into it. Howard [Marks] said, 'The name of the new album is 'Unmasked.' Although a hit in several countries around the world, Kiss couldn’t catch a break in the U.S. Okay, okay, enough already. A lot of people disagreed with my song choices, but I’m okay with it as I like what I like. Part 16 of my series of Kiss reviews, leading up to the release of Monster! ", For his part, Matthew Wilkening of Ultimate Classic Rock had positive comments on the album, according to him "Unmasked is an underrated gem of power pop in the middle of a race in free fall." And let us not forget Peter during the Tour. That is perfect. I have wondered that the same, but I would venture to say they are no good anymore. One of the more rocking songs and one of my favorites from the album. Ha!! I loved any album cover that was different, and you could stare at trying to make out the details. He is a tough nut to crack. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! Ha! Bottom line: "Unmasked" is a confused album. Undoubtedly the first truly mediocre album released by Kiss (and believe me, there would be plenty in 1980-1998), "Unmasked" is a shamelessly bland and commercial new wave/power pop album that makes "Dynasty" sound like "Rock And Roll Over". The band filmed a promotional video for "Shandi" with Criss. The band decided to take a break from the U.S. because the album was more successful in other countries, and Kiss played in Australia, England, New Zealand, Sweden, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France, and Italy. A testament to the separation of the band, a weak effort, and the album that, had the band searched for a ROCK producer, could have been much better and one to compete with the likes of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Queen, or Motley Crue at that time. A testament to the separation of the band, a weak effort, and the album that, had the band searched for a ROCK producer, could have been much better and one to compete with the likes of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Queen, or Motley Crue at that time. Full of good numbers, especially Ace’s contributions. Gene might come across as an Asshole, but from people that know him (I’m not one of those) I’ve heard nothing be great things about him in that he really is nice guy. When 1980 rolls around, the band have to make a new album and this would become the first album without all four members of the band.
